De Jong makes a close study of metropolitan life and re-interprets found objects in a naturalistic form. She is particularly drawn to new places and likes getting familiar with the surroundings. In this process, she wanders round searching for small shops or markets selling second-hand goods that cannot be found elsewhere. Then, when back in her studio, she transforms their original purpose into new personal codes for us to translate. Electroformed copper, garnets, black coral, all materials that have recently been chosen by the artist. In addition, current work has also seen the incorporation of ceramics into her pieces, after having completed studies in this field, evidencing the eclectic character of De Jong.
