Ramon Puig Cuyas’ work takes inspiration from collage techniques as a means of combining different symbols and transforming their meaning. Enigmatic and mysterious, his latest works entitled “Walled Gardens” depict a glimpse of what we are able to see of gardens through iron gates or over high walls. At times, these can be mere impressions of what a garden may actually look like, when very little can be seen of it. These forbidden Gardens often awaken in us the desire to transgress these boundaries. They invite us to jump over these high walls to discover the universe hidden within. Each piece in this series evokes the microcosms of plants and foliage that grow enclosed within these fantasy worlds. Imaginary landscapes of these confined paradises: a play on what is seen and unseen, what is real or fantasy.

Ramon Puig Cuyàs was born in Spain in 1953. He studied at the Massana School in Barcelona between 1969-74, where he has been teaching since 1977 and of which he is Head of the Jewellery Department. He has also been visiting lecturer in many universities and has given numerous conferences on his work. He has obtained several awards in Spain and abroad and has taken part in numerous solo and prestigious group exhibitions at an international level. His works are part of many public and private collections.
